Harvesting Time

Harvesting time is now in full swing for Poverty Bay's crop farmers, and contractors are utilising their big combine machines to the full.

We dropped in on Mr J. Greig's property at Waerenga-a-hika where E. G. White and Company's massive International Harvester was rapidly reducing a field of barley to broken straw and extracting tons of golden grain for bulk trucking into city mill stores.

Cutting swathes 12 feet wide, the machine was mowing up to 50 acres a day.

A versatile machine, it can handle all grain and husk crops, from minute grass seed to maize cobs.

The old and new...a windmill frames this view of the harvester at work.
