Wilding Shield Tennis

In the first round of the Wilding Shield, the premier New Zealand inter-association tennis trophy, the four-man Poverty Bay team played exceedingly well to defeat Hawkes Bay by nine rubbers to three.

Playing on their own courts, in Childers Road, the local representatives reversed a defeat given them by Hawkes Bay earlier in the season.
