Present at the recent school teachers' graduation ceremony at the Gisborne Intermediate School were eight local teachers who, along with the guest speaker at the function, the Minister of Education, Mr A. E. Kinsella, had all graduated from the Epsom Auckland Teachers' Training College in 1937. They are, from left, standing: Messrs J. Brown, N. Ensor, J. White, A. E. Kinsella, and G. Maunder. Mr Lester Traue (right), chairman of the Gisborne Intermediate School 25th Jubilee Committee, presenting Mr Lou Beattlie, chairman of the school committee, with a cheque for over £400, the proceeds from the school's recent jubilee celebrations. The money will be used for improvements to the swimming baths.

Miss L. J. Power, 11 Herbert Road, being congratulated by Mr Harry Thatcher, president N.Z. Breweries Gisborne Social Club, on her retirement from the breweries staff after 38 years' service. Miss Power, who has been on the staff since 1923 apart from a break of four years, was also made a presentation by the general manager, Mr E. T. Chrisp.
