"Miss Haere-mai" Tourist Campaign

"Miss Haere-mai", Mrs Carol Cunningham, and executives of the New Zealand Travel and Holiday Association visited Gisborne prior to Christmas to promote and explain the national Haere-mai tourism campaign.

While in the city they were hosts to a group of local business men and their wives at a function at the Chalet Rendezvous. During the evening, the purpose of the campaign was explained in detail, followed by a demonstration with the quadruple poi by Mrs Cunningham.

Selected to be "Miss Haere-mai" for a year, Mrs Cunningham, a member of the Ngatiporou tribe, was born in Tolaga Bay, leaving for Auckland with her parents, Mr and Mrs T. P. Clarke, almost 22 years ago.
