During the festive season the Mangatu Maori Concert Party performed two full-length cultural concerts in the War Memorial Hall. Some of the party are seen performing a poi action song.

The Gisborne Boys' High School rowing. four which won the Harry Warren Memorial Cup for competition between Auckland province schoolboy fours at the recent Whakatane Rowing Regatta. Two weeks later the crew won their race at the H.B. regatta, and in so doing, were up-graded to junior status. The Gisborne Fire Brigade made good save when it extinguished a strong blaze in this house in lower Stout St.

A Zephyr Six car was extensively damaged when it collided with an incoming railcar at the Grey Street crossing. The railcar was also damaged.
