Athletics Meeting
Gisborne, and visiting athletes and cyclists, competed in a half-day meeting at the Childers Road Reserve, organised by the local Amateur Athletics Club.
Highlight of the meeting was a fine tactical mile race by Alan Saunders in which he clipped .3sec off Alan Parkinson's H.B.-P.B. centre record of 4min 13.7sec. Parkinson took second place.
A P.B. record fell when Hasting's Glenys Morley ran a 220 in 25.8 sec.
Saunders breasts the tape to set a new time for the mile. Behind him is Parkinson.
Giant Napier hammer-thrower Darryl Gilliland winds up for an attempt on the N.Z. senior record. He was unsuccessful.
Auckland star Peter Grace leads Geoff Hutchins, J. McRae, and Bill Thompson at the head of the large field of one mile senior cyclists.
Top centre walker Jim Trowell strides around the track.
