Massive Cooker Brought To Gisborne

An enormous American-designed vertical hydrostatic food cooker, which will stand about three storeys high when assembled, was transported to Gisborne from Auckland by a convoy of 11 trucks last month.

Built in Australia, the cooker is the first of its type in New Zealand, and will be installed at J. Wattie Canneries for the sterilization of canned foods.

The cooker will be operational in January and will weigh over 200 tons when filled.
