Almost 20 years later Mr Aitkenhead climbed to the same spot with the same camera, a folding 2A Brownie, to record this present-day scene of the town.

The Te Karaka Fire Brigade made a good save when the doctor's residence and surgery in Rangitira Road caught fire in the early hours of November 3rd. On arrival the brigade found the end of the house ablaze, but managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to the rest of the dwelling. Pictured are two views of the damaged building, taken by Mr Aitkenhead, who is the brigade's Chief Fire Officer.
