Big Sewing Job

A mammoth sail-making job, for a 62ft yacht in Auckland, was recently undertaken by the Gisborne firm of J. F. Jeune Ltd. The six giant sails for the yacht were made up of 847 yards of terylene, and contain a total area of 7620 square feet. The spinaker alone is 3350 square feet, the equivalent of three average size homes. Sailmaker Ian Richards is pictured working at his machine, surrounded by a sea of terylene.
