Four Gisborne Intermediate School girls (from left), Diane Newman, Jan Chalmers, Lois Mitchell, and Heather Gilchrist, made a very fine gesture when they ran a jumble stall in a tent to raise £10-8-6 for the Intellectually Handicapped Children Society.

A similar venture was also run by two Te Hapara girls, Eileen O'Donnell and Mariece Jones, who made £2-18-0 for the Crippled Children Society from a stall in a garage in De Costa Avenue. Eileen (centre) and Mariece are pictured presenting the money to Mrs O. Hale, Field Officer for the society.
