Eleven Cook Hospital student nurses received their registered nurses' certificates at the hospital's graduation ceremony in the War Memorial Hall last month. Four Gisborne Intermediate School girls (from left), Diane Newman, Jan Chalmers, Lois Mitchell, and Heather Gilchrist, made a very fine gesture when they ran a jumble stall in a tent to raise £10-8-6 for the Intellectually Handicapped Children Society.

A similar venture was also run by two Te Hapara girls, Eileen O'Donnell and Mariece Jones, who made £2-18-0 for the Crippled Children Society from a stall in a garage in De Costa Avenue. Eileen (centre) and Mariece are pictured presenting the money to Mrs O. Hale, Field Officer for the society.
