The Riverside Women's Bowling Club season was officially opened last month when the Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, rolled the first bowl down the green. Watching Mrs Barker bowl are, from left: Mesdames E. McKee, C. Bignall, E. Gibson, (secretary), J. Orgias (president), A. Hamblyn (vice-president), and L. Butler (treasurer).

Michael Fitzgerald, son of Mr and Mrs Brian Fitzgerald, Ngatapa, who has graduated M.Sc. with first-class honours from Canterbury University. Michael was recently awarded a Fulbright Grant to study Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, California.

Also California bound is David Grey, son of Mr and Mrs L. Grey, Waimare Orchard, Ormond, who recently attained his Bachelor of Horticulture at Massey University and will further his studies for nine months in the U.S.A.

The Kaiti School's pet show saw hundreds of assorted animals, birds, and fish lined up for judging by Mr Harold Skyrme, of the Department of Agriculture. Mr Skyrme is pictured (second from right) with the young pet owners.
