Our Cover

Attractive young Gisborne swimming star, Miss Vivienne Scott, 15-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Scott, Kowhai Street, is the subject of our cover this month.

A prominent junior breast-stroker on the New Zealand swimming scene, Vivienne recently competed in an invitation carnival in Dunedin, where she was placed second to New Zealand representative Barbara Jones in the 110 yards and 220 yards events, bettering the New Zealand junior record time for the longer distance.

Vivienne has won numerous H.B.-P.B. centre titles, has equalled the New Zealand 100 yards short course record, and has been twice nominated for the New Zealand representative team. She is a pupil of the Lytton High School.

Back Cover. Gisborne's Botanical Gardens, with colourful plots of gaily flowering plants and picturesque Phoenix palms, is an attractive and peaceful respite from the rush and bustle of the city, where one may take a quiet stroll or do a spot of fishing from the footbridge across the Taruheru River.
