Gisborne's Jet-Age Pilot

Flight Lieutenant K. R. Brooking, the flight commander of the training section of the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Ohakea, is a former Gisborne boy, who attended the Boys' High School and was a member of the local Air Training Corps.

Flight Lieutenant Brooking paid a visit to his home town on Anniversary weekend when he flew in with the Vampire Jet aerobatic team which took part in the official opening of Darton Field's new sealed runway.

Although he is a former member of the aerobatics team, he did not take part in the flying demonstration as he was filling the role of commentator for the air show.

An experienced pilot, he spent eight years with the R.A.F. in Britain instructing and flying in a Hunter jet fighter squadron, and served in Cyprus, Germany, and the Middle East.
