Victories For Poverty Bay

The Poverty Bay A and B cricket teams both had victories over Bay of Plenty elevens when they met in two-day matches at the Oval during Anniversary weekend.

Playing for the Rigden Shield, the First XI were dismissed in the first innings for 191 runs. Bay of Plenty looked to be in for a win when they notched up 153 runs before end of play on the first day, but the next morning, the devastating bowling of John Beuth and Kevin Kennedy claimed six wickets for 33, to put the visitors out for 186, giving Poverty Bay a five runs first innings victory.
