Cycling Championships And Athletics
The H.B.-P.B. grass track cycling championships, and the decathlon and pentathlon athletics titles were decided at a combined meeting at the Chiiders Road Reserve recently.
Gisborne cyclists had a field day, taking eight of the nine titles, and proving beyond a doubt that they are the best in the centre.
In the men's decathlon, which was contested by four Gisborne athletes, Max Walker was victorious, with Stephen Smythe runner-up.
The women's pentathlon resulted in a narrow win for Hastings' Sue Haden over Brenda Walker, after she had been behind in points at the half-way mark.
Winner of the mile and three mile senior races, Kevin Whitely, leads the field round a bend. From left: Ray Brown, Geoff Hutchins, Kevin Whitely, Air Baker (obscured), and Ken Sparks.
