The Opotiki Bowling Club's annual weekend tournament for the Gordon Cup attracted large numbers of entries from Opotiki, Gisborne, and Bay of plenty, and from as far afield as Papakura. The Gisborne team of Frank Roberts (skip), George Langhorne, Fay Waugh, and Ivan Bramwell won the tournament when they defeated D. Merrie's Taneatua team in the final.
