"Road Works"

Following the launching of the submarine sewer outfall pipeline, Awapuni Road was opened to traffic after more than a year's closure, and Centennial Marine Drive was closed while the temporary bridge was removed and the pipeline launching channel filled to restore the foreshore, road, and surrounding area back to its original state.

Meanwhile, the City Council's northern interceptor sewer pipeline, which runs the full length of palmerston Road, has reached Stanley Road after passing through Barry Park. This picture was taken from the Stanley and Aberdeen Roads corner.

North of Ruatoria, at the southern approach to the new Rotokoutuku Bridge, across the Waiapu River, a big cutting is being made to eliminate the right-angle bend in the main East Coast highway. The new road will re-connect with the highway about half-a-mile from the bridge. (Picture by Frank Wynne-Jones).
