Big Dredge Arrives In Port

The Westminster Dredging Company's selfpropelled bucket dredge, Foremost Prince, sailed proudly into Gisborne harbour last month after crossing the Tasman from Australia in exactly ten days.

Before she was permitted to enter port, the Foremost Prince was inspected by local customs and health officials.

The dredge was the first of several vessels to arrive in Gisborne for the Harbour Board's £860,000 development scheme, which entails the dredging out of a large turning basin adjacent to the present outer channel. When completed, the port will be capable of handling the large overseas ships which are now loaded by lighters in the roadstead.
