Golden Fleeco District Champs

The Wairoa-Gisborne-East Coast district finals of the 1965 Golden Fleeco shearing and wool handling competition were held before a packed audience in the Y.M.C.A. stadium last month.

The individual speed shearing competition resulted in a terrific battle between New Zealand champion and representative Stewart Symon, and Tim Takarua, Graham Tai, and Graham Clegg, with Symon emerging the victor.

Winners of the teams' competition, and district representatives at the New Zealand finals at Masterton, were T. and P. Smiler (shearers), and Q. Tupara and W. Smiler (fleecos).
