Record Season For Beach Camps

Gisborne's two beach camps handled more than 7000 people during the holiday period to make this season the most successful, financially as well as numerically, yet experienced. Mainly due to the perfect weather turned on during the three week period, the campers stayed longer than in previous years. The camps were full to capacity for most of the holidays, and at one stage, visitors were forced to pitch their tents at the showgrounds.

Three charming visitors to the city who were fortunate to get a camp site at Waikanae, Ann, Sue, and Chris, from Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay, were having a lot of fun pitching their tent when caught by the Photo News camera.
