Civil Defence Emergency Police Sworn In

In recent weeks, 60 Civil Defence Emergency Police have been sworn in at the Gisborne Police Station by chief Inspector R. A. Moore and Mr A. L. Campbell, J. P. Included in their complement are five women.

The civil police, who will be required to undertake constables' duties in the event of regular force members being called away to a major disaster, will be trained in elementary law, first aid, and other similar duties.

Although the number sworn in has been comparatively satisfactory, the Police Department are still recruiting in an attempt to reach their target figure of more than 100.
