N.I. Croquet Championships

Perfect weather prevailed for the North Island Croquet Championships which ran for nine days on Gisborne's three greens earlier this month.

The final of the Open Championship was decided when Mr C. C. Crosby, of Napier, defeated Mr W. B. C. Paynter, of Lower Hutt, 26-22 and 26-23.

Gisborne's biggest triumph was in the Level Singles Championship when two local players gained first and second placings. They were Mrs R. Clarke, of the Barry Club, first, and Miss N. Maynard, Gisborne Club, second.

Mrs Clarke's husband, Mr Rua Clarke, made it a family double when he won the handicap doubles, partnered by Mr A. E. Ross, of Hastings. He was also runner-up in the handicap singles.
