N.Z. Archery Champs

118 archers from throughout the country converged on Gisborne in early January to shoot in the New Zealand Archery Championships.

Under the auspices of the Gisborne Club, the championships were conducted at the Childers Road Reserve (open and championship target shoots), Ilminster Intermediate School (clout shoot), Tangihanga Station (flight championship), and the Barkers Hill range, Shelley Road (field shoot).

Local archers acquitted themselves well in the face of strong opposition with many individual placings, and were victorious in the teams' championship.

The task of running the tournament fell largely on the shoulders of the Gisborne Club's secretary, Wilf Imrie, and field captain, John Sheldrake.
