First Bulk Tallow Exported

The first bulk tallow to be exported from Gisborne was recently trucked by road tanker from the Gisborne Abattoirs By-products Ltd, Awapuni Road, to the Napier firm of Colyer and Watson.

The tallow is used in the manufacture of soap, and was previously carried in drums.

The change-over to bulk handling necessitated the installation of two 12½ ton holding tanks, refinery tanks, and portable pumping equipment. The works has an output of six tons of tallow a week.
