Sportsmen Attend Gala Day

A feature of the Gisborne Boys' High School gala day was the presence of two of New Zealand's most prominent sportsmen, Don Clarice and Bert Sutciiffe, and leading athletics coach, Arthur Lydiard.

During the day, the two sportsmen were called on to perform many duties, the most novel of which was the judging of a cake-cooking competition.

At a prize-giving ceremony held on the school's quadrangle, they presented several sports trophies, and in the afternoon, took part in a past-versus-present cricket match.
