Rip-Roarin' Rodeo

A record crowd, estimated at over 6000, witnessed the annual Gisborne Rodeo in perfect weather at the Show-grounds on Boxing Day.

There were thrills and spills aplenty as the hardened cowboys pitted their skill and strength against the snorting fury of their wild mounts.

Most successful rider of the day was the young Aucklander, Herb Compain, who took the Open Buck-Jumping title, and was placed second in the Open Bareback ride.
