Schoolboy Sports Tournament

Gisborne was the venue during the August school holidays for the annual North Island under-12 soccer championships and the sectional New Zealand inter-secondary school hockey tournament.

Played at the Childers Road Reserve, the soccer ran for four days, and the hockey for three.

In the soccer, Hutt Valley ran out narrow winners when they defeated Auckland in the final by two goals to one.

The hockey was won by Heretaunga College in a spirited final game against Papatoctoe High School, the final score being 4-2.
