School Driving School

The Gisborne Transport Department and the Road Safety Council held their first driving school for secondary school pupils during the two weeks of the August holidays.

Using the council's own dual-control car, which was purchased specially for this purpose, the group of 12 children were given periods of instruction by Traffic Officer L. N. Hutchison, and also attended four night lectures.

The candidates were selected from Gisborne's five secondary schools, and were required to sit a two-hour exam and a practical road test before their licences were granted.
