Mr V. Hermon holding a New Zealand short-tail bat which he found in the wall of an old house he was demolishing in the Panikau area recently. A rare species, the bat was captured alive, and was last heard of still very much alive and kicking in possession of the nature study department of the Te Hapara School. Its diet apparently consisted mainly of insects.

School pupils of the Edmund Campion College assisted the staff of the Public Library in moving a great number of new books on a recent Saturday morning. The previous Saturday, Lyttori High School pupils assisted.
