The twelve-man Hawkes Bay golf team comfortably, defeated Poverty Bay by 19 1/2 games to 10 1/2 when the two teams met on the Poverty Bay golf course recently.

Playing over two days, Hawkes Bay fielded international and four-times New Zealand amateur champion Stan Jones, and former international Frank Gordon.

Both these players, however, were bettered by the brilliant young Gisborne golfer, 18-year-old John Croskery, who was playing top for the home side. Unfortunately, while playing Gordon, he was penalised for going out of bounds on one hole, and lost the game by one point.

One of the games proved to be something of a family affair. Here Eric Gordon (P. B.) watches brother Frank (H. B.) teeing off.
