Chess Championships

The Hawkes Bay-East Coast Chess League held their annual championships at the Gisborne Intermediate School during Queen's Birthday weekend.

Under the direction of Mr G. Severinson, of Takapau, the championships were played over three days, and resulted in a win in the inter-club competition for Hastings over Gisborne (2nd) and Dannevirke (3rd).

C. S. Harvey, of Opotiki, who was runner-up in the reserves section, studying play. He also claimed the trophy for the most improved younger player.
