Poverty Bay Defeats East Coast

The Poverty Bay representative rugby team opened its 1964 season in grand style at Rugby Park on the Queen's Birthday by defeating East Coast by 14 points to nil.

The game was attended by a large crowd of spectators, who turned out for this popular fixture in cool, but ideal rugby conditions.

Gaining a feast of ball, the Bay side was clearly superior in both the forwards and backs.

A penalty goal, a conversion, and three fine tries, one of them a brilliant piece of individualism by captain Johnny Collins, made up the Bay's winning points.
