Chatham Cup Soccer
In a thrilling game, hard-fought from first whistle to last, the Eastern Union soccer team narrowly defeated Thistle by two goals to nil to eliminate them from the Chatham Cup competition.
A feature of the game was the appearance of Gisborne's two New Zealand representatives, Alan Sefton and Trevor Pugh, who both turned out for Eastern Union.
