Roller Skaters v. Runners

A novel road race was held in Childers Road recently between members of the Gisborne Roller Skating Club and the Harrier Club.

Five skaters and seven harriers faced the starter for the race, which was held over a half mile circuit, the skaters being required to cover 10 laps, and the harriers, eight.

In an exciting finish, speed skater Ray Sheldrake overtook harrier Alan Saunders several hundred yards from the line, to claim the race.
