Marist Downed In Club Rugby

The Marist senior rugby team, winners of the Poverty Bay competition for the last few years, were downed by High School Old Boys by six points to three in an exciting, action-packed, game at Rugby Park on a recent Saturday afternoon.

Gaining a large share of the ball from set play, the losers were unable to capitalise with their star-studded backline, being consistently and effectively smothered by the machinelike defence of the old students.

The points came from two penalty goals to a dropped goal. Their first defeat this season, Marist were joined at that stage by H.S.O.B. and G.M.C. at the top of the competition ladder, with one game remaining in the first round.
