Sewer Scheme Progress

The Gisborne City Council's new sewerage scheme, which involves providing all the city's suburbs with new and larger arterial pipelines and constructing a 6000 feet-long outfall pipe into Poverty Bay, is progressing rapidly.

On the outfall project site, the first row of specially constructed concrete pipes are lying in readiness for connecting together.

The two main arterial pipelines recently crossed Waikanae Creek at points north and south of Stanley Road. On hand to inspect the laying into position of the pipes were the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, and the city engineer, Mr H. C. Williams.

Messrs Barker and Williams examine the job. At the far end of this bridge the pipeline runs under the railway line, which has to be lifted to allow sufficient clearance.
