Poverty Bay's champion Cherub class yachtsmen, Raymond Wenham (left) and Les Stevenson, skipper, competed with distinction in the New Zealand championships in Nelson recently. In the keenly-contested series, the pair was placed fourth overall, and won one of the individual races.

Gisborne and New Zealand shearing representative Stewart Symon, of Waipaoa, who won the annual Golden Shears open championship in Masterton recently, has been selected to represent his country in the British and Eire Golden Shears competitions later this year.

Te Karaka shearer Red Fleming, who with Doug Herbison (Te karaka) and Misses Rophia and Winiata (both of Ngatapa) won the Rothman's sponsored Waikato Golden Fleece teams' competition held in Hamilton recently. The contest drew entries from throughout the country.
