Highway To The South

Typical of the reconstruction work which can be seen these days in the Whareratas is this view near the top of the long climb from Bartletts, showing the new highway (right), built in a straight line through minor hills and over gullies. For comparison the old road, with its narrow width and numerous curves, can be seen at left, Gisborne lies beyond Young Nick's Head, in the distance, upper left.
