Following a call by the Community Public Relations Office for voluntary help to clean up the Waikanae Beach frontage, a band of willing young workers assembled on a Saturday morning prior to Christmas, and cheerfully set to with pick and shovel, paint and brush, and gave the area a much appreciated face-lift. Pictured painting picnic tables are Gwyneth Williams, Mary Alley, and Elizabeth Stock.

Another voluntary effort, worthy of note, was that of bulldozing contractor Ken Campbell, who undertook to level off the undeveloped area of Alfred Cox Park adjacent to the Waikanae Stream. His son, Ian Campbell, is pictured doing the job.
