For the next eight months, Sandra will be a pupil of the Gisborne Girls High School, and will live with Mr and Mrs Bob Crawford, of 777 Childers Road, whose son Robert is at present in the United States, also on an American Field Scholarship.

Pictured below is Sandra (at right) with some of the High School girls who welcomed her.

A farewell function was held late last year in the War Memorial Hall in honour of Mr Charles Smith, of 80 Stout Street, who was retiring from the firm of McCulloch, Butler, and Spence after 40 years' service. He is pictured (at right) being presented with a token of appreciation by two of his long-standing clients, Messrs. Humphrey Bayly and H. B. Williams jnr.

Sixteen-year-old American Field Scholar, Sandra (Sandy) Whitaker, was extended a warm welcome by officials and High School girls when she arrived at Darton Field from her home in Storrs, Connecticut.
