Sea Scouts in Camp

Over 500 Sea Scouts thoroughly enjoyed the biennial national camp held this January in Anzac Park, Gisborne. The weather for the most part vas perfect, and there was keen competition among the various troops in the yachting, rowing and other competitions decided during the week.

As the picture above illustrates, no more delightful or more suitable spot could have been chosen for the camp. Scouts are assembled on the banks of the Waimata to see Takitimu (Gisborne)win their heat in the senior roving event.

But after the meal comes the cleaning-up. At home Junior might be difficult if asked to scrub out the pots and pans, but in camp it is all in the day's work.

A local scout shows that even when "roughing it", the cutlery can be kept tidy.

Boys at the Anzac Park jetty clean their pots and pans against a backdrop of weeping willow and mirror-like Waimata River water. General consensus of opinion among top scout brass and among the boys themselves was that the location was ideal and the arrangements par excellence.

Grand finale to camp vas parade through town of 500 Sea Scouts Destination was Army Hall, where presentations were made. Takitimu, for fifth year in succession, won the Jellicoe trident.
