Mrs H. O'Connell, of Gisborne, who returned home recently from the New Zealand croquet championships with the coveted open singles championship cup, and Miss Elaine Kendrick, aged 15, who was the youngest player at the tournament, photographed recently at a club function in their honour. This is the third time only that the singles title has been won by a woman.

Maurice Dunn, an old boy of the Makaraka School, now of Hastings, who scooped the pool at the motorcycle speedway race meeting held over two days at the showground during the holidays. He is shown above returning to the pit after his forks broke at an earlier meeting.

Contractors are nor at work in Gladstone Road with the big job of replacing the many miles of pipe line which supplies Gisborne with water. Photo shows one of the big steel pipes being lowered into the trench in upper Te Hapara. Old pipe line is in such poor shape that up to 60% of the water never reaches Gisborne.
