The swimming pool at Waihirere was a popular spot daring the hot spell. Set in sylvan surroundings, framed by native and exotic trees the domain at Waihirere is one of the beauty spots of the district.

Just half a day's collection of flowers for the hospital photographed during Christmas week at radio station 2XG in response to a general appeal. A constant stream of callers was to be seen mounting the stairs to the station bearing blooms which eventually found their way to the bedsides of hospital patients and helped to brighten their Christmas.
