Kiwi Caught Near Gisborne

That comparatively rare bird, the Kiwi, is seldom seen in this district, but recently, when Mr J. W. Charteris, of Otoko, was inspecting opossum traps at Rakaroa, he found a kiwi caught in one of the traps by its right leg. Mr Charteris brought the bird to the Veterinary Club at Gisborne, who treated it, and it was then transferred to the Acclimatisation Society's game farm at Hexton. An effort is being made by the association to retain the bird at Hexton.
