Stuck In The Mud

As each stage of the work proceeds the contractor, Mr W. Owen, is faced with the removal of thousands of yards of mud and blue pug, in which it is only too easy to bog a bulldozer.

The hole is then filled with more solid material, and surfaced with concrete (see No. 4 "Photo News").

On this occasion a great deal of the material was removed by use of the Harbour Board's dredge, and dumped out at sea.

At right, one bulldozer pulls another bulldozer out of the mud in the giant hole which will soon be a part of the new lighter wharf at Kaiti.
