Ouch!

Ever see a wrestler in pain, real pain?

×

If not, just take a look at poor old Al Costello suffering intensely at the hands of his giant negro adversary, Bobo Wright, when they met on the mat in the Opera House last month. At right, Bobo is just about screwing that foot of Al's clean off his leg —and below, right, it seems Mr Costello has his head making a nice picture in that black frame. These antics are watched avidly by ringside fan (below) in stocking cap. Bout was preceded by amateur contest in which Napier beat Gisborne for the Hepburn Shield by two wins and three draws to three draws.

Now if Bobo wasn't there, it could look. as though Al was proposing to referee Herb Duckworth, especially with that soulful look in his eye.

Its a different story when Herb gets the job of bottom man in sacks on the mill. Although he is well-braced to take the strain, he eventually collapsed under the combined weight of the two 17st wrestlers.

Wright is shown at the game most calculated to upset his opponent— wrapping his long fingers round Costello's face, which never once failed to give Al the jitters.
