"Sally"

Rehearsals have been in progress for some weeks now for the presentation in November by the Gisborne Operatic Society of Jerome Kern's delightful and melodious musical comedy, "Sally".

This popular stage entertainment, one of the evergreens of the theatre, has been rewritten to bring it into line with modern trends, and in its new form, with the original musical score, it has been enjoying a remarkable revival.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon recently, "Photo News" camera tracked down members of the cast of "Sally" to a bungalow by the sea, and persuaded them to let the public see who will be playing leading parts in November's presentation.

Above are Muriel Croskery and Toby White, who will play the roles of Sally and Blair. Muriel Croskery is an office girl in real life, and Toby does something down at Watties. At left is George Rawlings, who will leave off hammering and sawing for long enough to give the role of the Admiral his best. Below at left are Ruth White and Alan Emery, who will be Mrs Ten Brock and Conine respectively. (Ruth and Toby are husband and wife, and Alan is on the programme staff at 2×G). And below at right are Lois Tonks and Howard Cairns, who will play Rosy and Otis. Lois spends her working hours as a hotel receptionist, while Howard writes a lot of the words you hear from 2×G.
