It's in the Bag

Most people have heard the radio programme, "It's In The Bag," in which Selwyn Toogood, in his own inimitable manner, poses questions and distributes largesse on behalf of a soap firm.

The other night, Gisborne had the chance to see "It's In The Bag" on the Opera House stage, when the Poverty Bay Basketball Association found its funds considerably augmented as a result.

The three pictures on this page show a finalist in the agony of indecision as he reaches the last question, "What will you take? The money or the bag?" Bag may contain prize worth up to £150, or it may contain an old sock or a rubber band.

On this occasion the. money offered was only £11 odd, so Jim Siriett, the lucky finalist, naturally took the bag. In the first picture he is rejecting Toogood's first offer for the bag. In the last he is still holding on to the bag as the final offer is made.

While readers who have never seen a radio announcer might imagine that they are born with big mouths, it should be explained that the round, black object so prominently featured on this page is a microphone.
