At Tokomaru Bay

Although 400 workers were thrown out of employment when the Tokomaru Bay Freezing Works closed down in 1952, it is reported that the town is in a thriving condition and far from being the "ghost town" which was predicted for it. Most of the men affected have been absorbed in other enterprises or on Bay sheep stations. Our photographs, taken on a recent visit by Mr H. Dudfield, Member for the District, show (above) the works, now being dismantled, and the jetty: and (right) a general view of the bay settlement. Much useful material is being salvaged from the works buildings, which are about 40 years old.
