Sermon on the Mount
About 40 trampers from Gisborne conducted a mass assault on the highest of the East Coast mountains, Hikurangi, on the last day in February, when one of the party's leaders was Mr H. Dudfield, M.P., who is a long-time member of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club. Others were Mr R.O'Kane, of the Gisborne Y.M.C.A., R.Sheffield and H.Nicoll.

This photograph by Mr W.Kerr shows Mr O'Kane conducting a short service on the summit, which was soon most fittingly known as "the sermon on the mount."
